About Homelessness

The Alliance to End Homelessness produces an annual Report Card on Ending Homelessness in Ottawa. The 16 page report card -

Evaluates the city’s progress in combating the crisis of homelessness by comparing the two most recent years to provide grades in four areas: housing, income, homelessness and length of shelter stay.
Provides information on a number of innovative housing and service solutions for homeless people developed in Ottawa
Aims to create awareness between those who have and those who do not have housing in Ottawa.
Offers actions community members can take to help end homelessness.

The Alliance to End Homelessness in Ottawa (ATEH) is a
non-partisan coalition taking action to end homelessness.

We envision an inclusive community that ensures everyone has an appropriate home.

What is homelessness?

Living on the street.
Staying overnight in temporary shelters.
Staying in places not meant for human habitation.
Moving continuously among temporary housing arrangements provided by strangers, friends or family ("couch surfing").

Who is "at risk of homelessness"?

Families and individuals can lose their housing for any number of reasons: fleeing abuse, losing a job, or having an income too low to stay in suitable housing.

Some are at risk because of mental illness, or substance use problems, or lack the life skills or ability to live on their own.
